A protest by employees working under the Education Ministry’s support programs is expected to disrupt traffic in central Nicosia on Thursday morning, just as some schools begin classes for the new academic year.
Protesters will gather near PASYDY headquarters at 9:30 a.m. before marching to the Presidential Palace, police said.
The demonstration and march are expected to temporarily affect traffic along the route and around the Presidential Palace. Police officers will be deployed to manage traffic, maintain security, and help keep vehicles moving.
The timing could make an already busy back-to-school morning more difficult for parents, teachers, and commuters travelling through the area.
Police have not specified how long the disruption is expected to last or exactly which roads will be affected. Drivers have been advised to avoid the wider area where possible, allow extra time for their journeys, and follow officers’ instructions.
The protest comes as employees of the ministry’s support programs take their demands directly to the government, although the police announcement did not provide details about the dispute or whether individual school services would be affected.
