Year’s final week starts with reluctant rain

Light rain in Cyprus but otherwise uneventful weather until thunderstorm activity enters picture midweek

A weak high pressure system is currently affecting Cyprus this week, with low chances of rain mainly in the west and temperatures slightly above normal averages.

Monday skies will be partly cloudy with scattered cloud formations at times, while chances of light rain are also expected mainly in the western half of the island.

Daytime highs will reach around 18 degrees Celsius inland and along the coast while it will around 7 high up in the mountains.

Evening skies will be partly cloudy and at times cloudy, with chances of light rain in the west and north. Temperature lows will drop down to 7 degrees inland, around 9 in the south and east, around 10 in all other coastal regions, while it will be 2 higher up where frost is expected to form overnight.

Cloudy skies and low chances of rain in the western half are also expected on Tuesday as well as Wednesday, when periods of sunshine will enter the picture, while Thursday will bring to the island mixed weather in the morning and possible thunderstorm activity in the afternoon.

Temperature highs in the coming days will be close or even slightly above normal averages for this time of the year, while snowfall is expected to continue throughout the week high up in the Troodos Mountains.

The last measurement of the Troodos Square snow gauge was 7 inches, as recorded at 5am on Monday.
