Larnaca and Paphos yet to be affected by flight delays and cancelations around the world due to Omicron

Hermes Airports in the Republic of Cyprus say a cancelation of flights around the world has not affected the island, as airlines across the globe have been pulling planes during the Christmas travel period over fears of the Omicron variant.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, citing sources from airport managing company Hermes, there have been no flight cancelations or delays in recent days at LCA or PFO that could be attributed to a wave of travel disruptions around the world due to the Omicron variant.

Cypriot health officials said the majority of the dozens of known Omicron cases who were detected on the island this month were linked to air travel

Thousands of flights were canceled globally as the uncertainty over Omicron struck the travel industry during the Christmas holidays.

As of Sunday morning, airline companies canceled over 2200 flights globally based on data available on the FlightAware online platform.

Cypriot health officials said the majority of the dozens of known Omicron cases who were detected on the island this month were linked to air travel.

In early December the Cabinet approved a measure until early January that requires mandatory PCR tests on all arriving passengers aged 12 and above regardless of country of departure and vaccination or recovery history.
