Press Release
The Association of Electricity Supplier Representatives (SEPIE) officially launched today, stepping onto Cyprus’ energy stage at a pivotal moment as the island moves toward a modern, competitive electricity market. The new body aims to bring clarity, fairness, and alignment with European standards while serving as a formal partner for the government and regulators.
At the launch, SEPIE highlighted its top priorities: improving transparency, ensuring stable market mechanisms, providing equal access for all participants, protecting consumers, and integrating renewables, storage, and smart technology seamlessly into the grid. The Association also stressed the need to end delays and loopholes that have long slowed competition.
“The launch of SEPIE is the start of a focused, well-planned effort to strengthen the operational maturity of Cyprus’ electricity market,” said George Theodotou, SEPIE President. “Our goal is clear: transparency, stability, and healthy competition, a market that truly benefits the economy and everyday consumers.”
Fanos Karantonis, SEPIE Secretary General, added, “Suppliers are key to keeping the market balanced, costs down, and integrating renewable energy and storage. SEPIE is committed to clear rules, technological upgrades, and fair access, while actively participating in regulatory processes to tackle distortions and boost market credibility.”
The launch of SEPIE marks the arrival of a structured, forward-looking organization ready to play a vital role in shaping a modern, competitive, and European-aligned energy framework for Cyprus.
