CBC: Bounced checks decline continue to decline

Fluctuations in dishonored check issuance highlight ongoing trends

A total of 36 bounced checks, amounting to €112,717, were issued in July 2023. These checks involve 18 entities, consisting of 11 legal entities and 7 individuals. They are listed in the preliminary Central Information Register for Dishonored Check Issuers (CIR), maintained by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC).

According to data released by the CBC on Tuesday, during the first seven months of 2023, 233 checks with a combined value of €615,810 were recorded in the preliminary CIR list. This involves 130 individuals, including 73 legal entities and 57 individuals. This reflects a decrease compared to the same period in 2022 when 260 checks worth €977,816 were registered.

Furthermore, CBC data indicates that in May 2023, a total of 21 individuals were added to the CIR. Among these, 8 are legal entities, 3 are individuals, and 10 individuals are controlling legal entities.

Over the period of January to July 2023, a total of 179 individuals were registered in the CIR, an increase from the 130 individuals registered during the same period in 2022.
