Cyprus is making a name for itself on the international investment stage. Invest Cyprus, the agency that brings businesses and investors to the island, has been elected Regional Director for Eastern Europe at the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) for 2025‑27.
What does that mean in plain terms? Basically, Cyprus now has a stronger voice when it comes to attracting investors in the region and shaping how business opportunities are shared. It’s a signal that the island is serious about being a hub for international business, and it could bring new money, jobs, and growth straight to Cyprus.
The vote took place last week in Sharjah, UAE, at a meeting of dozens of investment agencies from around the world. The CEO of Invest Cyprus, Marios Tannousis, called the appointment “an honor” and said it shows the island’s hard work is being noticed globally.
Why Cyprus stands to gain:
- Stronger connections: The role puts Cyprus at the heart of regional business discussions and networks.
- More investment: Being in this position makes it easier to bring new international investors and companies to the island.
- Economic credibility: It highlights Cyprus as a stable, safe, and business-friendly place in Europe.
Tannousis said the agency plans to use the role to foster more partnerships, share ideas with other countries, and attract quality investment.
In short: Cyprus may be small, but its influence is growing, and that’s good news for the island’s economy, its workers, and its businesses.
