Police are continuing workplace checks across Cyprus, arresting people suspected of working without authorization, while labor inspectors issue fines for undeclared work.

On Nov. 3, police arrested 38 nationals of non-EU countries during a large-scale operation in the Limassol district. The operation, carried out with the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance, targeted unauthorized employment, undeclared work and people staying in Cyprus without legal permission.

The checks took place at a building complex under construction in Limassol, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending around noon. Police arrested 31 people they said were working without authorization at the site. Officers are investigating those cases.

Police said eight of the 31 workers were also found to be staying in Cyprus without legal permission and are under investigation on that basis as well. Officers identified nine people as the workers’ employers and are investigating them on suspicion of employing people without authorization.

Police arrested seven more people in the surrounding area after determining that they were staying in Cyprus without legal permission.

Separately, labor inspectors reported violations of undeclared-work rules involving the 31 workers, their nine employers, and 12 other people who were nationals of European countries. Inspectors issued administrative fine notices to all 52 people, totaling €180,000.

The operation involved officers from the headquarters and district units of the Aliens and Immigration Service, the police subdivision responsible for monitoring the Green Line and managing migration flows, and inspectors from the Ministry of Labor and Social Insurance.
