Police are treating the older man as a possible trafficking victim and investigating suspected labor exploitation and threats of violence.

A tip that an older worker might be exploited led police to a livestock farm in the Nicosia district, where officers found a 73-year-old man doing cleaning work. The farm’s owner was arrested, and a court ordered him held for six days while police investigate, according to a report by SigmaLive.

Officers from the police anti-trafficking unit took the older man to their offices and treated him as a possible victim of human trafficking. He gave a statement describing how he worked and lived at the farm.

Police arrested the 37-year-old owner on Wednesday in an operation involving the anti-trafficking unit and two Nicosia police units. Officers also searched the farm under a court warrant and seized items they said were relevant to the investigation.

The owner appeared before the Nicosia District Court on Thursday. The police anti-trafficking unit is continuing the investigation.
