Drivers whose vehicles are on a new Takata airbag recall list should stop using them until the faulty part is replaced, the Road Transport Department said Thursday. The recall covers 52 vehicles across several makes.
The danger comes from the part that inflates the airbag. It can rupture and send metal fragments flying, causing serious injury or death, the department said.
The department said it sent a text message to the phone number it has on file for each registered owner. Vehicle distributors and manufacturer representatives will also contact affected owners.
How to check your vehicle
Check the official list of the 52 recalled vehicles, even if you haven’t received a text. If your vehicle is listed, the department advises keeping it parked until the defective part has been replaced.
