CyField, the company responsible for constructing Nicosia's perimeter motorway, is bein genalized €5,500 as of today, July 16. The Transport Minister, Alexis Vafeadis, confirmed this development during an interview with SPOR FM 95.00's "Diaspora News."
Minister Vafeadis stated that the motorway, originally slated for completion today, will not meet its deadline. The contractor has informed the Public Works Department of their inability to deliver the project on schedule, triggering the penalty clauses stipulated in their agreement. As per these clauses, the company faces daily fines for the undue delay of the project.
"The penalties, amounting to €5,500 per day, are now in effect due to the delay," said Vafeadis. Despite the setback, he assured that the project is nearing completion and is expected to be ready by the beginning of August.
The Nicosia perimeter motorway is a significant infrastructure project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the capital. The delay has raised concerns among local commuters and businesses relying on the timely completion of the road to improve transportation efficiency.
Vafeadis did not provide specific reasons for the delay but emphasized the importance of holding contractors accountable to ensure future adherence to project timelines. The minister's comments highlight the government's commitment to maintaining stringent oversight on public infrastructure projects.
As the new anticipated completion date approaches, both the public and stakeholders await the project's finalization, hopeful that no further delays will hinder the much-needed improvement to Nicosia's transportation network.
