A €1 million tourist development featuring six boutique accommodation units is set to be built in the village of Inia, in the Municipality of Akamas, after receiving the green light from the Environmental Authority.
The project will be located close to the heart of the village, near the central square, where the church, cafés, small shops, and existing homes are found. The nearby village of Droushia is just a short distance to the northwest.
The site currently contains several trees, including a terebinth, a fig tree, six young olive trees, and various shrubs, mainly around its edges. While the original plot measures 1,244 square meters, the privately owned section earmarked for the development covers 608 square meters following land division and allocations.
According to the environmental study, the existing old buildings on the site, which are not listed as protected structures, will be demolished to make way for the new development.
The project will include six two-story, one-bedroom units, accommodating up to 12 guests in total. It will also feature a swimming pool, a central biological treatment plant, perimeter fencing, and six parking spaces.
The Environmental Authority noted that the nearest Natura 2000 protected areas in the Akamas Peninsula are located around 840 to 930 meters from the site. Because of this distance, it concluded that neither a special ecological assessment nor a full environmental impact assessment is required.
The plot borders low-density housing to the northwest and west, while the remaining sides are surrounded by uncultivated and abandoned land.
Construction is expected to be completed within 18 months once all the necessary permits have been secured.
