Get your costumes ready and your dancing shoes on because the most joyful, colorful, and sea-splashed celebration is coming! The Famagusta Carnival 2025 is making waves, and this year’s royal ruler has been revealed – actor Alkis Christou will be the Aqua King, King of the Seas!
The big announcement was made on Tuesday, January 28, at a press conference held at the Paralimni - Deryneia Municipal Hall, where the Carnival Committee unveiled this year’s majestic theme inspired by none other than Poseidon, the mighty god of the sea. According to legend, after a quarrel with his brother Zeus, Poseidon’s mighty trident struck Lycaonia, scattering pieces of land that became Sardinia, Euboea, and Cyprus itself. And now, in 2025, Poseidon’s spirit is alive and well in Famagusta, ready to bring a tidal wave of fun and festivities!
A Carnival Like No Other
Mayor of Paralimni - Deryneia, George Nikolettos, is gearing up for an unforgettable celebration, saying the region is set to welcome thousands of carnivalists and even more enthusiastic spectators. “We invite everyone to experience the warmest and friendliest carnival in Cyprus,” he declared, promising that visitor records will be shattered this year.
Deputy Mayor Kleanthis Koutsoftas echoed the excitement, calling the carnival the biggest event in the Famagusta district. With participants from all over Cyprus already preparing their dazzling floats and costumes, it’s bound to be a spectacle like no other!
A Royal Invitation
The newly crowned King of the Famagusta Carnival 2025, Alkis Christou, couldn’t be more thrilled. “I was delighted to accept this role, and I thank the Carnival Committee, the Cultural Committee, the Mayor, and the City Council for the honor,” he said.
And of course, no king rules alone! Christou is calling on everyone to be part of the magic, inviting people to join the Grand Carnival Parade on Sunday, March 2, and to take part in the festivities leading up to the big day, starting with the legendary Tsiknopempti celebrations. Expect delicious grilled meat, music, dancing, and a whole lot of fun!
