A Good Friday tradition was once again revived in the village of Kathikas, where residents and visitors gathered for a reenactment of Jesus Christ carrying the Holy Cross from the Praetorium to Golgotha.
The annual event attracted crowds from across Cyprus, with many attending to follow the solemn procession. The route began at the chapel of Saint Onouphrios and ended at the church of Panagia Evangelistria, covering a distance of about half a kilometer.
According to the Deputy Mayor of Kathikas, Charalambos Fylaktou, this year’s turnout was higher than ever before. He thanked those who attended and took part in what he described as a deeply moving experience.
Mayor of Akamas, Marinos Lambrou, spoke about the importance of maintaining such customs, noting that they form an essential part of cultural identity and help preserve the island’s heritage. He added that supporting and strengthening these traditions remains a priority for the municipality.
Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis was also present at the event.
