Things got unexpectedly medieval in Limassol in the early hours of Thursday, when a routine traffic camera check turned into a shovel-wielding showdown.

According to police, the drama unfolded around 1 a.m., when a mobile speed camera operator called for help, saying an unknown driver was blocking his vehicle during routine checks.

Officers rushed to the scene, only to be greeted by a 38-year-old man who apparently wasn’t too thrilled to see them. The suspect stepped out of his car swinging curses—and a metal shovel.

In the scuffle that followed, one officer was hit in the leg and injured. The suspect was arrested on the spot for a series of offenses committed red-handed.

No word yet on why he was armed with a shovel in the middle of the night—but the incident is now under investigation.
