The Republic’s total coronavirus cases rose to 784 on Tuesday after 12 tested positive for the virus from a total of 1,325 lab tests.

Coronavirus cases in the north remained stable at 109.

The new coronavirus cases in the Republic involve one who tested positive from a pool of 893 samples tested from the 20,000 targeted tests on employees still coming into contact with the public, and 11 contacts of other known cases, who were identified after a total of 202 contacts were tested for the virus.

Over half of the targeted tests on public and private sector employees have been completed, with 10,613 so far having been tested.

The coronavirus death toll in the Republic remained stable at 12.

“The number of new cases show that there are still sources of infection in the community, which we need to locate and isolate. Until then, we should remain alert and not make the mistake of believing the battle has been won,” experts speaking at the Health Ministry’s daily briefing on Tuesday said.
