A 22-year-old man was arrested Saturday after a dramatic car chase through Limassol in a stolen vehicle, during which he crashed into a police car, caused multiple traffic accidents, and attempted to flee on foot.
The incident began when a 76-year-old Limassol resident reported his car stolen from the driveway of his home earlier that morning. Police soon located the vehicle in an open area, where the suspect, upon spotting officers, rammed into a police vehicle and sped off, driving recklessly and ignoring orders to stop.
Officers noted the vehicle's trunk was open with a bicycle inside. During the chase, the bicycle fell onto the road. The suspect continued driving dangerously, endangering other motorists, and caused two minor crashes resulting in property damage.
The pursuit ended when the driver lost control and crashed into a residential wall. He exited the vehicle and tried to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended by officers and arrested on the spot.
Police later identified the suspect as a 22-year-old resident of Limassol. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to the offenses. His claims regarding the bicycle are under investigation.
The Episkopi Police Station, in coordination with the Limassol Traffic Department, is continuing the investigation.
