A serious criminal investigation is underway following disturbing allegations made by a 43-year-old woman, who claims she was abducted, physically assaulted, and sexually abused over the weekend of April 4-5. The incidents are believed to have taken place across the Nicosia and Larnaca districts.
Authorities were alerted after the woman managed to contact them while in danger. Police located her and transferred her to Nicosia General Hospital, where doctors documented multiple injuries. Reports indicate she had bruising on her neck and abdomen, as well as a burn on her chest. Among the most alarming claims is that her attacker forced a cloth soaked in paraffin oil into her mouth during the assault.
Later that same evening, police arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with the case. He was brought before the Nicosia District Court, which approved an eight-day detention order as investigations continue. The case is currently being handled by the Morphou Criminal Investigation Department.
Early findings suggest that the woman and the suspect were acquainted, which may have helped authorities identify and locate him quickly.
Despite the gravity of the accusations, police did not immediately issue a public statement, raising questions about their handling of the case. According to available information, investigators initially examined whether the situation fell under domestic violence laws. This possibility was later ruled out, as the two individuals were not living together.
Public interest in the case has grown further due to social media activity. A woman has posted claims online that appear to align with the reported events, while also criticizing law enforcement’s response, both in this instance and in other cases.
