A 45-year-old suspect wanted in connection with a criminal group that defrauded citizens in Cyprus has been placed in custody by a court in the British Sovereign Base Areas (SBAs), pending extradition to Cypriot authorities.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday in the Episkopi-Kourion area during a joint operation by the Republic of Cyprus Police and the British Bases Police, as the area falls under SBA jurisdiction.
According to a spokesperson for the Bases, the SBA court remanded the suspect in custody today until next Tuesday, when he is expected to be handed over to Cypriot authorities. The suspect is under investigation in Cyprus for offenses including conspiracy to commit a felony, forgery, and circulation of counterfeit documents.
