A 91-year-old woman was attacked at a suburban train station in Stockholm by a 26-year-old man who violently pushed her to the ground and stole her gold chain. The horrifying incident, which was captured in chilling security footage, has shocked the community not only for the brutal assault but also for the appalling reaction—or lack thereof—from those nearby.
The video shows the elderly woman, who was climbing the stairs to exit the station, being followed by the man, identified as Karam Kanjo. After catching up to her, Kanjo pushes the woman, causing her to fall to the ground. He then swiftly snatches her gold chain before fleeing the scene.
What is even more disturbing, however, is the complete indifference of the bystanders. The footage reveals that no one steps forward to assist the elderly woman, even after the assailant has fled. The woman remains on the ground, vulnerable and in distress, as the crowd continues to walk by without offering help.
The attacker, 26-year-old Karam Kanjo, has a criminal history. Swedish media reports that Kanjo, of Syrian origin, had previously been convicted of sexual assault and had been released on parole. Following the robbery of the 91-year-old woman, he was re-sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison, as well as deportation.
