Akrotiri British Bases police donated 60 boxes containing food supplies and essential items to 100 families financially affected by the coronavirus pandemic living in the surrounding communities.

The Food Aid program was first introduced during the financial crisis of 2013, to help families in need.

Care packages were filled with donations made by the SBA community and British Bases schools, including other local schools and businesses.

The ceremony for the distribution of care packages held at the SBA police station in Akrotiri was attended by the island’s First Lady, Andri Anastasiades.

Anastasiades expressed thanks for the aid program and gave assurances that the state will continue to support such initiatives.

The Assistant Chief of British Bases police Constantinos Petrou said the cooperation between the British Bases and the Republic of Cyprus has been notably upgraded in recent years, highlighted the leading role taken toward this end by the Bases police.

The SBA Police Community Unit had also delivered an additional 35 care packages to families in need in April 16.
