Person repatriated to Cyprus from Albania tests positive for the virus

The new case flew into Cyprus from Albania (category C) on Monday and was tested for the virus upon arrival at the airport

The Health Ministry announced one new coronavirus case on Tuesday involving an Albanian national permanently residing in Cyprus who flew into the island from Albania (category C) via Athens on Monday.

The man was among the pool of 379 arriving passengers that were checked for the virus at the airport.

Tuesday saw a total of 1,754 samples processed for the virus, with samples collected from 511 service sector workers, 271 patients who fall under special health groups, 154 contacts of other known cases, 329 people who took the initiative to get tested, and 110 from microbiology labs of General Hospitals.

The new case brought total cases recorded in the Republic of Cyprus since the virus broke out in early March to 1,023.
