Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides appointed Andreas Papaconstantinou as the Republic's new Auditor General.
The act of appointment will take place on Wednesday, October 2, at the Presidential Palace, an announcement by the Cyprus Presidency says.
The announcement says that the experience and qualifications of Andreas Papaconstantinou, as an Certified Auditor and an Certified Internal Auditor, as well as his experience, both in the private and the wider public sector, are a guarantee for the performance of the important tasks assigned to him.
The role, the work and the institution of the Audit Office is of extreme importance in safeguarding transparency, public accountability, fighting corruption and defending good administration, the announcement further reads.
“Papaconstantinou assumes the duties of the Auditor General of the Republic at a time when he will be called upon to support and contribute substantially to the upgrading of the Audit Office as promoted through the reform programme of President Christodoulides which, among other things, provides for the establishment of a Court of Auditors’’, the Presidency says in its announcement.
Andreas Papaconstantinou holds a BA in Accounting, Finance and Economics, a Masters in Business Administration and a BA in Pastoral and Social Theology.
Last week the Supreme Court decided to remove Odysseas Michaelides from his position as Auditor General for inappropriate conduct.
