Archbishop Elpidophoros of America was taken to hospital on Sunday after collapsing during a Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Aretsou, Thessaloniki.
The incident took place while the service was underway, drawing an immediate response from clergy and worshippers attending the liturgy. Emergency medical personnel were called to the cathedral and provided assistance at the scene.
Paramedics later transported the archbishop to Thessaloniki’s 424 Military Hospital, where he underwent medical examinations as a precaution.
Elpidophoros had arrived in Thessaloniki on Saturday as part of a planned program of church-related engagements. No official information on his condition had been released by hospital authorities or church officials as of Sunday, with further updates expected.
