A female bookie in Paphos had €50,000 in cash stolen from her vehicle, telling cops her car was burglarised while she went for a drink late after work.

The 29-year-old business woman, who owns a betting shop in Paphos, finished work Sunday night and placed a money purse in the glove compartment of her vehicle, according her to complaint to police.

She then drove to a bar for a drink, leaving her car for a short time in a parking lot nearby. But when she returned around 11:30pm, she was shocked to find a smashed window on the front seat passenger side and the cash missing from the vehicle.

Police were called to the scene and began collecting evidence and dusting for fingerprints, without ruling out scenarios including a random theft or a calculated criminal act.

Investigators were reportedly looking into the possibility that the woman was being watched by the perpetrators.
