Boxing Day weather: Partly cloudy, fully indecisive

Leftovers are certain, but sunshine is optional, and thunder is… considering it.

Newsroom

Good morning and happy Boxing Day! This is the day when gifts live in boxes, leftovers become a lifestyle, and the weather… refuses to fully commit to anything.

Today will be partly cloudy, which is meteorologist-speak for “sun and clouds arguing all day.” From time to time, isolated showers may wander through, and yes, a thunderstorm is possible, especially in the north and over the mountains. Not guaranteed, just enough to keep you slightly suspicious of the sky.

Winds will blow southwesterly to northwesterly, light to moderate at 3-4 Beaufort, but along windward coasts they may briefly flex up to 5 Beaufort. The sea will be slightly rough, meaning fine to look at, less fun to wrestle with.

Temperatures remain politely confused about the calendar:

  • 18°C inland
  • Around 20°C on the coasts
  • 10°C in the higher mountains

Honestly, not bad for late December.

Tonight

Partly cloudy skies continue, with northwesterly winds staying light at 3 Beaufort, occasionally moderate at 4 Beaufort in exposed areas. The sea remains up to slightly rough, much like anyone still digesting yesterday’s feast.

Looking ahead

Saturday: Déjà vu. Partly cloudy again, with isolated showers and a small “maybe” on thunderstorms.

Sunday & Monday: Partly cloudy at intervals, calmer, less dramatic, emotionally and meteorologically.

Temperatures hold steady on Saturday, still slightly above seasonal averages, before finally remembering it’s winter on Sunday, when a noticeable drop arrives. Monday stays much the same.

So enjoy Boxing Day while eating the leftovers. Don’t trust the clouds too much, and keep one eye on the sky, just in case it decides to spice things up.
