Last night, the German Embassy in Cyprus hosted a vibrant reception at Chateau Status to celebrate the 34th anniversary of German Unity Day. Under twinkling garden lights that added a touch of magic to the evening, hundreds gathered near the dividing line of Europe’s last remaining divided capital. Among the attendees were officials, ambassadors, prominent business leaders, and many members of the German expatriate community in Cyprus.
The event began with a heartfelt speech from H.E. Anke Schlimm, the German Ambassador to Cyprus, who reminisced about the historic moment of reunification on October 3, 1990, when East and West Germany came together after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Ambassador Schlimm shared personal memories of that transformative time, recalling the joy and optimism that swept through Germany as it became a unified nation at the heart of Europe.
