Green Line barrier removal approved by Cyprus Government

Increased patrols to replace Green Line barbed wire

Newsroom

The Council of Ministers has decided to remove the barbed wire fence along the Green Line, a barrier installed during the tenure of former Interior Minister Nikos Nouris to curb migration flows.

The decision followed a site visit by Deputy Minister of Immigration Nicolas Ioannidis and a police evaluation report that concluded the fence was ineffective. In place of the barbed wire, authorities will increase patrols along the Green Line to bolster security in the area.
