More than a quarter of Cypriots with disabilities reported difficulty making ends meet in 2024, according to data published Wednesday by Eurostat.

The figures show 27.6% of Cypriots over 16 with disabilities said their resources were insufficient to cover necessary expenses, compared with 18% of those without disabilities. The EU average was 22.8% for people with disabilities and 15% for those without. Greece recorded the highest share at 75.5%, while Luxembourg had the lowest at 8%.

The data also revealed 46.6% of Cypriots with disabilities could not afford a one-week annual holiday, versus 29.4% of those without disabilities. Across the EU, 38.8% of people with disabilities reported the same.

Cyprus had the lowest share in Europe, just 1.5%, of people with disabilities unable to afford meat, fish, or a vegetarian equivalent every other day, compared with the EU average of 12.8%.

Meanwhile, 43.9% of Cypriots with disabilities struggled with unexpected expenses and 15.2% risked falling behind on mortgage, rent, or utility payments. Both rates were above the EU averages of 38% and 10.2%, respectively.
