The Department of Public Works is responsible for the technical maintenance of government buildings but not for cleaning, odors, or disinfection, the department said in a statement Thursday.
The clarification came in response to a report on working conditions at the Paphos Government Buildings published by Phileleftheros.
According to the department, once the Paphos Government Buildings were completed, a management committee was established under the Immovable Property (Possession, Registration, and Valuation) Law, Cap. 224. That committee oversees building management and maintenance and includes representatives from the government services housed there.
“These committees are responsible for security, cleanliness, and ensuring the smooth operation of the facilities,” the department said.
The department added that technical maintenance of the Paphos Government Buildings is carried out by the Paphos District Office of Public Works, as with other government buildings. Department heads submit requests for work, and the Public Works Department responds immediately, it said.
