Customs officers confiscated several animal products at the Deryneia crossing point on Sunday after finding food items being transported in violation of Green Line regulations.
According to authorities, officers from the Customs Department carried out a routine inspection on March 15 on a vehicle driven by a foreign national who holds Cypriot citizenship.
During the check, officials discovered and seized a quantity of dairy and meat products that are not allowed to be transported across the crossing points under existing rules aimed at protecting public and animal health.
The items confiscated included:
- three liters of airani, a yogurt-based dairy drink,
- 700 grams of cheese,
- 1.3 kilograms of salami,
- and seven packages of fresh chicken weighing a total of 4.7 kilograms.
Authorities said the products were seized because they breached provisions of the Green Line Regulation, which restricts the movement of certain animal-origin goods between the two sides of the island to prevent health risks and the spread of animal diseases.
Customs officials continue to carry out regular inspections at crossing points, particularly as authorities remain on alert due to ongoing concerns about animal health and disease control.
