Cyprus is getting ready for a big boost in healthcare, with a new hospital in Polis Chrysochous set to open by the end of 2028, Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides announced. The hospital will serve about 20,000 people, and the government has already secured the land needed for construction.
The plan is to hire consultants by May 2026, choose a contractor in 2027, and start building the hospital later that year. If all goes as planned, residents could see the hospital welcoming patients by late 2028.
At the same time, Cyprus will launch a National Cancer Institute, which will coordinate all cancer care across the island and set medical guidelines. For now, it will operate from the Ministry of Health, with a permanent building to come later.
The minister also touched on long-discussed university clinics, saying a new meeting with doctors and officials will take place to try to finalize plans before the next elections.
In short: by 2028, Polis will have a brand-new hospital, Cyprus will have a national center for cancer coordination, and steps will be taken toward modern university-linked clinics, all aimed at improving healthcare for everyone.
