Officials greenlight €90M Paphos-Polis highway after contractor appeal fails

AKTOR’s challenge rejected, clearing the way for construction on first phase of long-awaited road.

Cyprus is moving ahead with the first stretch of the Paphos-Polis Chrysochous highway after authorities rejected an appeal by construction company AKTOR.

The decision means a new tender can now be announced to complete the highway section from Agia Marinouda to Stroumbi, costing around €90 million.

AKTOR had filed the appeal in August after its previous contract was terminated. The company asked to cancel the new tender and change some of its rules. But the Tender Review Authority examined all the points and rejected them entirely.

The Ministry of Transport said the temporary pause on the tender process, in place since August, is now lifted. Companies can access the tender documents online and submit their bids.

Once finished, the highway will make travel in northwest Cyprus faster and easier, benefiting commuters and local businesses alike.

The Paphos-Polis highway has been a long-running saga, with multiple delays, contract terminations, and legal battles stretching back several years. Originally planned to improve connections in the northwest, the project has repeatedly been stalled, frustrating locals and drivers eager for safer, faster routes. This latest decision marks a critical step toward finally completing the road.
