The road expansion project for Tombs of the Kings Avenue to Coral Bay is moving ahead, with the tender expected to be announced in the first quarter of 2026, according to the Department of Public Works.

The project involves extending Tombs of the Kings Avenue from Chloraka to just before the Coral Bay roundabout in Peyia.

Estimated at €40 million, the development will include the construction of four traffic lanes, bicycle paths, roadside parking, sidewalks, and green spaces along the route.

Once the construction plans and tender documents are completed, the department said, tenders will be invited for the project’s implementation along the eight-kilometer stretch connecting Tombs of the Kings to Coral Bay.

The study for the project was awarded to engineering firm EYPALINOS MELETITIKI Ltd following a tender by the Department of Public Works. The contract began on July 1, 2024.

The department noted that the regulatory plan has been finalized, and the preliminary road alignment has been sent to various utility services for their input, as well as to the Department of Lands and Surveys for the required expropriations.

Studies by the Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) and the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) have already been completed and forwarded to the project consultant. The remaining utility studies are expected soon.

A series of meetings chaired by Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades has also taken place with representatives of the utility services to ensure the timely completion of their work.
