Police have arrested a 37-year-old man as part of an investigation into an attack on a driver operating a mobile speed camera vehicle and the deliberate damage caused to the company car.
The suspect was arrested shortly before 2 p.m. on Thursday by officers from the Limassol unit of the Cyprus Police, acting on a court warrant issued after evidence emerged during the investigation. He has been taken into custody to assist with questioning.
According to investigators, the incident happened around 2:40 a.m. on the Paphos–Limassol highway, near a parking area by the Kouklia exit heading toward Limassol.
Police say the 36-year-old employee was parked there in a mobile traffic camera vehicle, carrying out speed enforcement checks.
At some point, a car carrying three people pulled up nearby. One of the men approached and asked to speak with the driver. When the driver rolled down his window, the suspect allegedly sprayed a substance into his face.
The other two individuals are believed to have then struck the company vehicle, causing damage before leaving the scene.
The driver managed to drive away and went straight to the nearest police station, where he reported the incident.
Investigators from the Paphos Criminal Investigation Department are continuing to examine the case as they work to identify the other individuals involved.
