Police are investigating the disappearance of a British national’s body from the mortuary at Nicosia General Hospital after a funeral home representative arrived to collect the remains for transfer to the United Kingdom and found they were missing.

The man had died in Paphos around a month ago. Due to the circumstances of his death, his body was transferred to Nicosia for a post-mortem examination, as the mortuary at Paphos General Hospital remains out of service.

The disappearance came to light when the funeral home representative went to collect the remains for repatriation. No official record of the body’s removal or transfer could be found, prompting a complaint to the police.

Investigators are examining several possible explanations, including whether another funeral home collected the body without the required authorization or failed to follow the established procedures.

Authorities are now working to establish when the body was removed from the mortuary, who was responsible and under what circumstances the incident occurred.
