After days of intense discussions, debates, and bill votes, Cyprus' MPs finally got a well-deserved break to celebrate the holiday season in style. The three-day marathon budget debate came to a close with an unforgettable Christmas party filled with laughter, dancing, and festive cheer.
The evening kicked off with a dose of humor, courtesy of comedian Louis Patsalidis, who was invited as a special guest. Patsalidis kept everyone in stitches, handing out gifts and lightening the mood after the long, exhausting days in Parliament. In a fun exchange, Speaker of the House, Annita Demetriou, presented him with a festive T-shirt as a token of appreciation from the House.
But the fun didn’t stop there. One of the highlights of the night was when DIPA MP Alekos Tryfonidis took on the role of Santa Claus. Dressed in a full Santa costume, he spread holiday cheer by handing out gifts to his fellow MPs, adding a playful touch to the evening's festivities. Demetriou shared a video of the heartwarming gift exchange on social media, thanking Patsalidis for providing the perfect end to what had been a challenging weekend for the MPs.
Among the memorable moments were the unique and thoughtful gifts exchanged. EPP president Marinos Sizopoulos gave Patsalidis a backgammon board, while Patsalidis gifted MP Stefanou a pair of binoculars. Tryfonidis, in true Santa style, handed out a quirky gift: a "pollipiff" (a playful item that left everyone wondering!). There was also a delightful exchange between MPs, with gifts ranging from an English-Greek dictionary for Koulia to a book from Tornaritis' brother.
The festive spirit continued with plenty of dancing, as MPs Savia Orphanidou and Alexandra Attalidou led the way on the dance floor, showing off their best moves and lifting the mood even further.
The evening provided the perfect opportunity for the hardworking MPs to unwind and connect after an intense legislative session. It was a night of fun, camaraderie, and holiday cheer, a welcome respite before the serious business of the next legislative session.
As the holiday season officially kicks off, it’s clear that the MPs are ready for some relaxation and celebration. And with gifts, laughter, and dancing, this Christmas party was the perfect way to wrap up the year.
