Calm seas and a midweek surprise from the mountains

High clouds drift across Cyprus today while warm temperatures keep the island feeling bright and summery.

Newsroom

Cyprus is easing through the week beneath soft skies and slow-moving clouds, with the weather feeling undecided between holding onto summer warmth and inviting spring back for one last visit.

Today brings intervals of high cloud drifting lazily overhead, giving the sunshine a softer glow without taking away the warmth. Winds will start off shy and changeable before settling into a gentle southwesterly to northwesterly flow later in the day. The sea remains calm and slight, perfect for anyone already daydreaming about beach afternoons instead of work emails.

Temperatures will climb to around 31°C inland, close to 29°C along the southern and eastern coasts, around 25°C in western and northern areas, and a fresher 21°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, the skies will grow cloudier as medium and high cloud spread across the island, wrapping the evening in a quieter, moodier atmosphere. Winds will stay light, and the sea will continue its calm and easy-going mood.

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will begin mostly clear, but as the afternoons unfold, clouds are expected to gather over the mountains and eastern parts of the island. Isolated showers, and even the occasional thunderstorm, may bubble up later in the day, adding a little rumble and sparkle to the horizon.

Temperatures are expected to dip noticeably on Wednesday, falling well below the usual levels for this time of year, before slowly warming up again by Friday as Cyprus edges one step closer to full summer mode.
