The Turkish Cypriot Cancer Patients’ Aid Association (KHYD) is raising alarms over serious problems in accessing cancer medicines in the occupied territories.
Ayse Kanliada, president of the association, warned that delays and shortages in the supply of essential drugs are putting patients’ treatments at risk. In a statement published by the local outlet Yeni Düzen, she said daily purchases of medicine are only a temporary fix and urged authorities to find long-term solutions.
“Delays in the supply of medicines, shortages of stocks, or disruptions in the distribution chain threaten the health and well-being of patients,” Kanliada said.
She emphasized that access to oncology drugs is not a luxury but a basic health right. Interruptions in treatment, she added, cause both physical and psychological suffering for patients and their families.
KHYD is calling for cooperation among relevant bodies and authorities to ensure that cancer patients can receive their medicine on time, stressing that no patient should have to wait for life-saving treatment.
