Civil Defense has issued a yellow weather warning from 23:00 on December 22 to 09:00 on December 23, 2025, warning of isolated but strong thunderstorms that may bring heavy rainfall exceeding 35 millimeters per hour, as well as hail and strong winds.
Authorities caution that these conditions could lead to flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents are urged to clear drains and gutters, secure loose outdoor objects, and prepare sandbags where necessary. Those with basements should take extra precautions, including moving valuables to higher levels.
During periods of intense rainfall, the public is advised to limit travel and avoid underground areas. If flooding occurs, people inside buildings should leave basement spaces immediately and move to higher ground, while those outdoors should avoid flooded roads, power lines, and unstable terrain.
Civil Defense also warns that severe storms may be accompanied by strong winds or isolated tornado activity. Outdoor activities, especially at sea or near trees and balconies, should be avoided, and employers are advised to suspend outdoor work if conditions worsen.
Authorities stress the importance of following official guidance and sharing safety information to help protect lives. Updates and further warnings will be issued through official channels, including www.moi.gov.cy.
