Heavy rain and hail hit the Paphos district on Saturday, covering roads in ice and making driving conditions hazardous.

Paphos recorded the highest rainfall on the island, and hail accumulated along the Paphos-Geroskipou road, where the roadway appeared white, according to video footage shared online.

The video was posted on the weather forecast page of meteorologist Tasos Ierodiakonou and was submitted by a follower of the page.

In an earlier report to 24news, Ierodiakonou said Cyprus is experiencing an unstable weather pattern that will continue over the coming days.

Rainfall will not be uniform across the island, he said, noting that conditions are expected to improve in western areas as weather systems move east. During the evening, clouds will persist at times, with rain mainly over the sea and possibly in northern and northeastern coastal areas.

Temperatures are expected to drop in mountainous regions, while remaining slightly above normal in lowland and coastal areas until rain systems pass through. Maximum temperatures are forecast to reach 20-22 degrees Celsius inland and along the coast, 8–13 degrees in mountainous areas above 1,000 meters, and around 7 degrees at the summit of Mount Olympus. Semi-mountainous areas will see highs between 14 and 20 degrees.

Minimum temperatures are expected to be around 10 degrees inland, 10-13 degrees along the coast, 4-6 degrees in mountainous regions, and near 3 degrees on Mount Olympus.

Humidity levels during midday hours will range from 50-60% inland, 60-80% in mountainous areas and along the coast. From late Sunday night into early Monday, humidity is expected to rise to between 80% and 100%.

Winds will strengthen throughout the day, blowing from the south to southeast at 4 to 5 Beaufort between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., with gusts reaching 5 Beaufort between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Winds are expected to weaken gradually after 4 p.m., shifting to 2 to 3 Beaufort during the evening.

Looking ahead to Monday and Tuesday, Ierodiakonou said Cyprus will remain under a low-pressure system, bringing continued unstable weather with intermittent rainfall. He noted that while rain will affect the entire island between Dec. 21 and 23, precipitation amounts will vary by region.
