Clear skies and strong winds hit Cyprus

Winds strengthen, light showers possible

Newsroom

A weak low-pressure system combined with a strong westerly wind field will affect Cyprus today, bringing mostly clear skies with occasional local cloud cover. There is a chance of isolated light showers in the western half of the island during the morning.

Winds will blow from the southwest to northwest, starting at moderate to strong, 4 to 5 on the Beaufort scale, increasing to generally strong at 5 Beaufort. In the afternoon, winds along the southern coast may reach up to 6 Beaufort, classified as very strong. The sea will be slightly rough to rough in the western and northern areas, and calmer but gradually rougher in the south and east by the afternoon. Temperatures will reach around 32°C inland and along the southeast and eastern coasts, about 29°C on the southwest, west, and north coasts, and approximately 22°C in the higher mountains.

Tonight, mostly clear skies will persist, though occasional clouds may form, particularly over the western half of the island. Winds will shift slightly, blowing southwest to northwest at 3 to 4 Beaufort, with moderate winds of 4 Beaufort along windward coasts. Seas will remain slightly rough in the west and north, while calmer conditions are expected in the south and east.

Wednesday’s forecast predicts mostly clear weather with occasional cloud cover and a slight rise in temperatures, expected to align with seasonal averages.

By Thursday and Friday, clear skies will continue, although cloud buildup in the afternoon, particularly over mountainous regions, may lead to isolated showers. Temperatures will rise gradually, remaining close to the seasonal norm.
