Cold snap expected to worsen

Low pressure and signs of poor weather point to a cold and wet week

A low pressure system over Cyprus is expected to cause barometric pressure to drop in the evening, with chances of rain and thunderstorms throughout the week.

Monday skies will be cloudy at times over local areas while weather officials do not rule out thunderstorms in some parts of the island.

Minimum lows will drop down to 5° Celsius inland, around 9 in all coastal areas, while it will be -3 in the highest elevations

In the evening, weather will be mostly cloudy while late night rain showers will continue into the early morning with chances of isolated thunderstorms.

Maximum high temperatures will reach 14° Celsius inland and in all the coastal regions, while it will be 3 degrees up in the highest elevations. Frost is expected to form in the morning on the mountains.

Minimum lows will drop down to 5° Celsius inland, around 9 in all coastal areas, while it will be three degrees below zero (-3) in the highest elevations where frost is expected to form. Frost is expected to form in the mountains and over rural areas in the foothills.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, while more snow is expected on the mountains. Snow or sleet is also expected overnight in rural areas in the foothills.

Temperatures will drop slightly and remain below normal averages also on Wednesday, while scattered clouds are expected throughout the day.

Thursday will remain cloudy at times with chances of local showers and possibly isolated thunderstorms over parts of the island.

Temperatures will climb slightly but remain below the normal averages for this time of the year.
