A late-night clash in Limassol’s Agia Zoni neighborhood left three people injured and sent police racing to an apartment where a dozen individuals were arrested, as authorities continue to investigate what they describe as a violent and organized incident.
The disturbance unfolded shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday, when police received reports of a fight in the area. Officers arriving at the scene found bloodstains on the street, along with a piece of iron believed to have been used as a weapon and a discarded pair of shoes.
The trail led police to a nearby apartment, where 12 people were located, including an 18-year-old man who had visible injuries to his head, legs and other parts of his body. An ambulance was called, and the teenager was taken to Limassol General Hospital.
Two other people were also injured during the clash. All three were treated at the hospital and later discharged.
A search of the apartment uncovered two cricket bats bearing what police believe may be bloodstains. The items were seized as evidence as investigators worked to piece together what happened and who played what role.
Authorities are now probing a wide range of possible offenses, including conspiracy to commit both felony and misdemeanor crimes, rioting, kidnapping, common assault, causing grievous bodily harm, and possession of offensive weapons.
Arrest warrants were issued for all 12 individuals found in the apartment, and they were taken into custody to assist with the investigation.
The incident comes just days after violent scenes just outside police HQ in Larnaca raised fresh concerns about public safety and group violence, adding to growing unease over late-night clashes erupting in residential areas.
Police have not released further details on the identities of those arrested or what may have triggered the violence, as investigations continue.
