Newsroom

Customs officers at Paphos Airport confiscated nearly €200,000 in undeclared cash from a passenger arriving from Ireland.

The passenger, a Ukrainian national, landed in Cyprus on 24 May after travelling from Dublin. Authorities carried out a luggage inspection after receiving information from members of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN).

During an X-ray check of the bags, officials identified suspicious items and proceeded with a manual search. They discovered €199,950 hidden inside 13 socks placed in shoes.

The money was seized because the passenger had not declared the amount upon entering the Republic of Cyprus, as required by regulations.

The Investigations Division of the Customs Headquarters is continuing to examine the case.
