Cyprus claims bronze at European Youth Karate Championships in Limassol

Areti Kleanthous secures a podium finish after four wins in the Cadet -47kg category.

Cyprus secured a medal on home soil at the 53rd European Cadet, Junior and U21 Karate Championships, held at the Spyros Kyprianou Arena from February 6 to 8, 2026.

Areti Kleanthous delivered the standout result for the host nation, claiming bronze in the Cadet Kumite -47kg category after recording four victories during the tournament. Overall, Cypriot athletes registered 13 wins across the three-day competition.

The championship brought major international participation to Cyprus, attracting around 1,200 athletes from 47 countries.

The final day of action was attended by Cyprus Sports Organisation (KOA) board member Rikkos Pattichis, who represented President Nikos Christodoulides. Pattichis praised the Cyprus Karate Federation for staging another significant international event, highlighting its value both for local athletes and for promoting sports tourism on the island. He also took part in the medal presentations.
