A heatwave continues to grip Cyprus, with temperatures reaching 41 degrees Celsius (105.8 Fahrenheit) on Monday, according to the Department of Meteorology. A yellow alert for extreme heat is in effect from noon to 5 p.m.

A seasonal low-pressure system combined with a warm air mass is affecting the region.
Monday’s weather is expected to be mostly clear. Winds will initially blow from the southeast to southwest at light strength, around 3 on the Beaufort scale, gradually shifting to southwesterly to northwesterly, moderate at 4 Beaufort. Stronger gusts up to 5 Beaufort are expected in exposed coastal areas. The sea will range from slight to moderate.
Temperatures are forecast to rise to 41°C inland, around 36°C along the eastern and southern coasts, 33°C on the western and northern coasts, and 32°C in the mountains.
Overnight, mostly clear skies will persist. Winds will shift to northwesterly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, light to locally moderate. The sea will be calm to slightly rough. Overnight lows are expected to fall to 25°C inland, 22°C along the coasts, and 19°C in mountainous regions.
Mostly clear weather is expected to continue through Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Temperatures will remain stable and above seasonal averages.
Fire risk remains high
The Forestry Department has issued a “Red Alert” for forest fire risk, warning that conditions are highly favorable for fires to ignite and spread.
Officials are urging the public to exercise extreme caution and avoid any actions that could spark a fire.
Anyone who sees smoke or flames is asked to call the Forestry Department at 1407 or the Fire Service at 112 immediately.
