Cyprus holds off decision on more relaxations

Cabinet buys more time to take into account latest rise in hospitalizations

Newsroom

The Cabinet has pushed back a crucial announcement, through which the government was expected to move forward with further relaxations, citing a rise in daily cases and hospitalizations.

According to local media, the Cabinet on Wednesday postponed the announcement of a crucial decision at least until Friday, where it will decide whether to relax more measures against the pandemic, such as modifying curfew hours, allowing restaurants to reopen, and letting junior high school students back into the classroom.

Following consultations with health and commerce experts earlier this week, the Anastasiades administration was expected Wednesday to announce a Cabinet approval for more relaxations concerning measures to stop further spread of COVID-19.

But the health ministry clarified that there would be no announcements until Friday, so that a new Cabinet meeting could take into account the latest developments.
