Cyprus has successfully joined the World Health Organization's Global Digital Health Certification, the Health Ministry said on Wednesday.

It comes after coordinated actions of the Medical and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health, the Department of Information Technology Services of the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, the National e-Health Authority and the University of Cyprus, the Ministry said in a press release.

Cyprus is only the sixth European country that has completed the connection to this network.

The World Health Organization's Global Digital Health Certification Network provides the digital infrastructure for cross-border health document verification, thus serving to develop digital products to enhance pandemic preparedness and provide better health for all.

The network incorporates the European Digital Certificate for COVID (EUDCC) technology that the European Union developed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The network could in the future be used to support additional cases such as the international digital vaccination certificate, cross-border prescription verification, cross-border electronic exchange of the patient summary and cross-border certification of Healthcare Professionals," the press release concludes.
