President Nikos Christodoulides presented six proposals aimed at supporting security, reconstruction, and humanitarian efforts in Gaza during meetings at the Gaza Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The initiative, he said, aligns with the framework of the plan recently advanced by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Speaking on the sidelines of the summit, which focused on the signing of a cease-fire agreement and the return of hostages, Christodoulides emphasized that Cyprus’s proposals remain under development but are intended to contribute constructively to regional stability.

“This is a proposal that is still in progress and will continue to evolve, with the sole objective of doing everything possible that corresponds to the Republic of Cyprus,” Christodoulides said.

The Cypriot president explained that the six proposals fall under three main areas: security, reconstruction, and humanitarian assistance. He said the initiative builds on the humanitarian corridor plan first presented by Cyprus in October 2023 in Paris, which sought to facilitate the delivery of aid to Gaza through Cypriot ports.

Christodoulides noted that the proposals take into account Cyprus’s close relations with neighboring states, its position as the only European Union member in the region, and its forthcoming presidency of the EU Council.

“We discussed and exchanged views on the plan and on Cyprus’s initiative,” he said. “I also briefed the President of the European Commission yesterday, the Commission’s contribution is of crucial importance, as well as the leaders of the states with whom we have been in contact over the past 24 hours.”

The president emphasized that the proposals aim to facilitate the implementation of the first phase of the cease-fire agreement and strengthen international cooperation on the ground.

“This is an initiative involving six specific proposals across three sectors, security, reconstruction, and humanitarian assistance, always in relation to the proposal and the plan of the U.S. President,” he said.
