Cyprus' national tennis team delivered a stellar performance in Nicosia on Saturday, securing a dominant 4-0 victory over Thailand in the Davis Cup. With this win, Cyprus advances to the final phase of the play-offs, bringing them closer to a coveted spot in the B division of the Davis Cup World Cup.
The Cypriot players stepped up in a big way, outplaying their Thai opponents despite facing higher-ranked competitors in every match. Menelaos Efstathiou set the tone with a hard-fought comeback victory against Maximus Jones (2-6, 6-3, 6-2), while Stylianos Christodoulou followed suit with another three-set thriller against Kasidit Shamrez (1-6, 6-0, 6-4).
In doubles action, the duo of Sergis Kyratzis and Eleftherios Neos held their nerve to defeat Isaro Pruchya and Samrez Kasidit in straight sets (6-3, 7-5), putting Cyprus firmly in control. Timini Andreas then sealed the clean sweep with a confident 6-3, 6-3 win over Thanapet Chanta.
The victory is a huge morale boost for the Cypriot squad, proving that rankings don’t always tell the full story. With momentum on their side, the team now sets its sights on the next round, where they will fight for promotion to the B division.
